the world leader in ultra-fast 3D surfacing imaging for healthcare

The 3dMDcranial System was delivered to its first customer in 2001. In 2004, the 3dMDcranial System was re-engineered to take full advantage of 3dMD’s latest generation technology which was designed for very efficient work flow taking a more modular approach to patient imaging. Today, 3dMDcranial Systems are in daily use in institutions around the world to accurately document the size and shape of the patient’s craniofacial complex and cranial geometry. With an ultra-fast capture speed many of the systems are focused on scanning babies (3 months-plus) for orthotic size and fit applications to assist with conditions such as positional plagiocephaly and craniosynostosis.

Depending on the user’s requirements such as coverage, portability, etc, the 3dMDcranial System can be organized into a number of different standard configurations or custom built for a designated room or area. The two standard systems available are the 3dMDcranial4 System and 3dMDcranial5 System. While both systems generate a 360-degree image of the subject’s head, the 3dMDcranial5 System is designed for very high throughput applications where there is less time for subject positioning and the 3dMDcranial4 System is designed to provide experienced users with more configuration flexibility.

Many 3dMD customers have taken advantage of our economical upgrade path when they wanted to move from solely imaging the face to include the full head. Since 3dMD systems are fully modular, upgrades can be purchased as an onsite upgrade from the 3dMDface System. With the 3dMDflex pack, the system can be re-configured as a 3dMDcranial System, a 3dMDtorso System or a customized configuration in a few minutes. The 3dMDcranial System comes with a very simple user calibration system allowing camera alignment to be confirmed in a couple of minutes. Even after long distance transportation, the 3dMD system is effective for compensating for any type component movement.

Customers who use the 3dMDcranial System in their patient protocols, routinely scanning both infant and adult heads, include Children’s Hospital, Seattle; Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne; University of Copenhagen; Osaka University; Children's Hospital Los Angeles; and locations in Germany.

Specifications:
• Coverage: Full 360-degree capture of the head
• Capture speed: ~1.5 milliseconds at highest resolution, which eliminates the
challenges and data errors associated with patient movement
• Geometry Accuracy: <0.2mm RMS or better (depending on exact configuration)
• Lighting requirements: operates in standard clinic/office lighting conditions
• Provision of data required to support for a range of custom orthotic manufacturing
   processes
