Since 1997 3dMD has been pioneering the application of 3D imaging technology in the field of medicine.

As a customer-focused organization, 3dMD has carefully planned its product development path through the years to continuously educate the community on the latest in 3D and provide the most recent 3D products and services to our customers so they gain significant improvements in working practice.

3dMD became known when we took a quantum leap forward in advancing the technique for accurately and conveniently imaging the surface of the human anatomy in 3D. In 2000 with the launch if its first commercial products, 3dMD rewrote the rule book on what was possible in 3D surface imaging. Past capture techniques had required long scanning times and were plagued by occlusion errors and movement artifacts. After years of laboratory work, 3dMD’s technique of applying close-range active stereo photogrammetry provided a completely fresh approach and immediately eliminated the previous challenges associated with 3D surface imaging. Although many of 3dMD’s original first generation systems remain in daily use, the company has continued to innovate in this field and remains the market leader in terms of functionality, quality, and actual installed customer base.

In 2006, 3dMD responded to the community’s growing demand for sophisticated 3D imaging software that is powerful yet easy to use. Our new 3dMDvultus platform not only lets the user take advantage of the full potential provided by 3dMD images, it also combines the 3dMD image with a wide range of complementary imaging modalities to help support the clinical decision process. To address the software application requirements of the dental and medical communities in one combined platform, 3dMD has implemented a business formula that combines 3dMD’s world leading software development skills with the pre-eminent specialty knowledge of domain experts who have joined 3dMD’s advisory team. Similar to our surface imaging history, 3dMDvultus represents a first in providing a software environment that can is accessible and can be used by all members of the treatment team across disciplines with the single minded goal of providing the best possible outcome for their patients.
